Our Mission

Advocating for Grizzlies in the Wild and Beyond

The founders of Montana Grizzly Encounter believe that the majestic grizzly bear is a valuable and worthy part of our wild natural heritage that deserves our protection. We believe that the best place for any bear is in the wild. Unfortunately, there are some grizzly bears that cannot survive in the wild for a variety of reasons and many suffer extreme cruelty while living in inadequate captive situations.

At the same time, we understand that grizzly bears are now found in only 2 percent of their original range in the lower 48 states and can only exist in the wild in the future if the public takes an active interest in their preservation.

Montana Grizzly Encounter’s mission is twofold: to help stop the cruelty to these animals by providing a proper and humane home for rescued bears that cannot live in the wild. And to provide education to the public about grizzly bears in an effort to promote appreciation and preservation of the species in its natural habitat. In order to accomplish this, Montana Grizzly Encounter will provide an opportunity for the public to view rescued grizzly bears living in a spacious natural setting and, in doing so, encourage people to learn about and have a greater appreciation for the bears and their wild counterparts. Montana Grizzly Encounter will also provide education about bear safety in an effort to minimize the danger from human-bear interaction in the wilds, which too often causes injury to both humans and bears. On a broader scale, Montana Grizzly Encounter will provide the same education to the public at large through the media.

Please help us in our mission to help grizzly bears. Donations to Montana Grizzly Encounter are not tax-deductible.
